Archives of Shame – St. Lukes Cork – 06/10/2019

““You_are_you”, the piece that I have submitted to the Archives of Shame is a continuation of my research with regard to information flow and the use of language in an online context. The prevalence of “trigger words” in marketing and content generation online over the last few years has been attributed to “inadequacy marketing” which can be construed as shame marketing in some instances. This splitting of the identity into contradictory and inter-relational aspects is a postmodern take on marketing and has led to people being treated as vessels for aspirational products and lifestyles whilst at the same time the language used to get people to engage has gotten more extreme and polarising.”
